Requirements for Handling Radioactive Isotopes and Radioation at Osaka University

In order to handle radioisotopes and radiation regulated by the Law Concerinig Regulation of Radioactive Isotopes, a radiation worker must meet the following requirements.　

(1) Ragistration as a radiation worker at Osaka University
(2) Undergoing a special health check
(3) Attend radiation education and training
(4) Use of personal radiation dosimeter

Requirement(1)　Ragistration as a radiation worker at Osaka University

A radiation worker must be registered in Radiation Management System in Osaka University which is web-based registration system to record information on the results of medical check, attendance for the education and training, and radiological dose. The registration is handled by each department. Please contact your department office. If you wish to correct your registration information or cancel your registration, please counsult with your department office.

Requirement(2)　Undergoing a special health check

A special medical check is regulated in the Law Concerinig Regulation of Radioactive Isotopes. This is different from a regular medical check.
The following persons are required to undergoing a pre-entry medical check.
① Those handling RI for the first time.
② Those who have transffered from an institution other than the university amd meet both the following (1) and (2).
　　(1) Those handing RI fior the first time.
　　(2) Those who cannot prove the results of medical check at other institutions.
The newly regitered radiation worker is required to undergo a special web-based medical check every six months.

Requirement(3)　Attend radiation education and training

A new registant is required to attend "Radiation Education and Training for New Radiation Workers" (4h) before entering the radiation control area.
A radiation worker registered in the previous year is required to attend "Radiation Education and Training for Registered Radioation Workers" once in a year.

Requirement(4)　Use of personal radiation dosimeter

　After all the requirements (1) - (3) are fulfilled, a request is made to the vendor (Nagase Landauer or Chiyoda Technol) through the office of your department. Personal dosimeters are useually replaced once a month. Please do not lose it.
