FT-Infrared Spectrophotometer

This device irradiates a liquid or solid sample with infrared light (2500-25000 nm) and measures the amount of transmitted and reflected light to obtain the vibration spectrum of the material. Infrared absorption occurs because the energy of infrared light is close to the energy of molecular vibration. It is known that the efficiency of infrared light absorption increases with the amount of change in the electric dipole moment. Therefore, functional groups consisting of atoms with different electronegativity (-OH, -CO-, etc.) can be estimated. For the measurement, the total reflection method or the KBr method is selected in consideration of the state and quantity of the sample.
